This app must allow for two login scenarios other than the usual one

machine on the network even when using a machine running under a different
users login. Second, the app must be available to someone that does not hav

have been using mixed mode authentication which does the job. Since all the
documentation seems to recommend Windows authentication mode and mixed mode
is for backward compability, am I missing something here? Can I handle the
two scenarios, particularly the second using Windows Authentication?

> JB|||That's hard to say as this line doesn't make sense:
"Second, the app must be available to someone that does not
have a windows login, eg a field worker that needs to
access the app occasionially using a machine running under
a different users login"
So what login is the "different users login" - but the user
doesn't have a login?
It really depends on what login is being used, if the field
work is accessing a machine in a domain, if it's multiple
domains, depends on trusts that may or may not be setup,
etc.
In terms of the other issue, Machines and logins are two
different things. If I have my windows login setup for
access to a SQL Server box in my domain, it doesn't matter
what machine I use. If I login into the network, that's the
credentials that are used no matter what machine I may be
logged into.
If users are logging into the domain with all different
logins, accessing network resources with various logins then
you have a security mess at the network level which will
lead to security messes in SQL Server as well when
implementing Windows authentication.

Can anybody having the fix for this, because my securtiy Auditing team

1. Do you have encryption enabled on the client or server?
2. When this happens is the laptop connected to the network?
3. Do you have any IPSec rules setup for the SQL Server?

1. If the db has a lot of free space, see if shrinking will reduce the size.
2. Move some tables into a new database, then shrink and attach both.
3. Delete and/or move some of your older data into a new database, then
shrink and attach both.

Attaching a mdf to a SQL Express instance during installation
Hi,
Im working in a proyect where i need to attach a mdf database to the client's SQL express instance. How can i accomplish during installation and without getting the user involved.
Any help will be greatly appretiated
I've been trying the following procedure:
Server svr = new Server(@."(local)\SQLEXPRESS");
System.Collections.Specialized.StringCollection sc = new System.Collections.Specialized.StringCollection();
sc.Add("c:\\Tester.mdf");
svr.AttachDatabase("Tester", sc);
But im getting the followin Error :
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Any ideas?
|||Hi,
could you please post the whole error message you are getting ? The problem is probably that the install process is using an account which is not priviledged to either access the files or attaching a database. if you want to use a special account to connect to the server you should use one of the other constructors of the server objects, specifying a special user or a connection string. if you have any further problems, come back with the whole error messages please.

attaching a .mdf file to the MSSQL 2000 using commandline
Hi ,
we have a requirement to create a database of our application in client's system. and we assume that already MS Sql server is installed.
we have a .mdf file of our database. Is there any way I can attach .mdf file to the database using command line. so that I can write a batch file and run that batch to create the database in our client's system.

you can use SQL scripting method. If it is sql server 2005 then use SQLCMD -q and if it is sql server 2000 then use OSQL -q option.

Attach/Detach database
the server of one of the client. By using Enterprise Manager I was going to
detach db from my server, create a database with the same name on a new
server, detach it, replace files on the new server with my copies and attach
both databases on both servers back.
Unfortunately my server displays Attach Database entry only in popup menu. I
have nothing to attach yet.
I did this operation several times and had no problem before. Probably I
detached some of the unimportant databases and forgot to attach it back.
How can I refresh (clean up whatever) Enterprise Manager memory about last
operation in order to have the ability to use Detach feature?
Thank you
Al
Hi
I would recommend that you do this from Query Analyser, there is no need to
create the database first.

|||The detach option is context-sensitive so you need to first select the
desired database in the tree.
You should not create a new database before attaching. Detach the database
and copy the files to the new server. In the Attach database dialog,
specify the mdf file, click Verify and specify the desired database name in
the 'Attach As' box. You can change the locations of the other files in the
list, if needed.
You might also consider using the sp_attach_db and sp_detach_db stored
procedures. See the Books Online for more information.
